"I don't know much about art, but I know what I like" Most of have heard this in all kinds of places and just about every contexts.  Of all places, an episode of Doctor Who ("Two Doctors"). its been reported as being heard there. The quote comes with all kinds of baggage and one just has to be curious about where it comes from and why some people use it. Sometimes its used when one should know something but has the authority to be ignorant. The consequences of that are often outrageous and never more so than when it is used by dilettante.

There are many definitions of 'ART' – stuff that might be junked – and Pablo Picasso (1881–1973), Spanish artist ,said "We all know that Art is not truth. Art is a lie that makes us realize truth." If you do not like that, then Frank Zappa said "art was making something out of nothing and selling it" and if you click here there are more definitions still. If you cannot use the internet, get out of the ARTbusiness – or stop pretending to know!
